Tumbling

Classes For All Ages & Skill Levels

The tumbling program at Hot Shots Cheerleading and Tumbling offers a structured progression designed to take athletes from their very first cartwheel to elite twisting skills. Younger children typically begin in the preschool classes to build basic coordination before moving into the primary beginner levels. As students master fundamental floor skills, they advance through intermediate and advanced stages that focus on back handsprings and tucks. The most experienced tumblers participate in high-level sessions dedicated to layouts and full twists. Throughout the program, many classes require specific skill benchmarks to ensure every athlete is training safely and effectively at their current ability level.

Tumbling Class Options

Cartwheels & Fun Class

(Ages 3-5)

The cartwheels & fun class introduces students to fundamental movements like donkey kicks, handstands, and cartwheels. Participants focus on building core skills such as balance, flexibility, and strength through activities like bear walks and crab walks. The curriculum also covers essential floor work including forward rolls, backward rolls, and back bends to help athletes develop proper body positions. This session is held in a controlled environment where coaches guide students through each station to ensure safety and technical progression.

Cartwheels & Kickovers

(Ages 6+)

This beginner tumbling class focuses on preparing athletes for more advanced skills like kickovers and back handsprings. Participants practice foundational movements such as handstands, forward and backward rolls, and back bends while also working on balance, flexibility, and strength. The curriculum includes specialized coordination exercises like bear walks and crab walks to build the necessary body control for mastering unassisted kickovers. Successful completion of this level requires students to demonstrate the ability to execute a kickover from a back bend position without assistance.

Wonderful Walkovers & Bouncy Back Handsprings

This intermediate tumbling class is designed for athletes who have already mastered an unassisted back bend kickover. The curriculum focuses on perfecting technical execution in back walkovers and front walkovers while introducing foundational back handspring drills. Students work on a variety of exercises including handstands, jumps, and body position work to improve balance, flexibility, and strength. Training utilizes both the floor and trampolines to help students transition through spotted back handsprings toward independent execution. To advance to the next level, participants must demonstrate the ability to perform a back handspring without assistance on any piece of gym equipment.

Back Handspring Floor Time

This class is designed for athletes who have already mastered an unassisted back handspring on a trampoline. The primary goal is to transition those skills to the floor, focusing on both standing and running back handsprings. In addition to power tumbling, the curriculum continues to reinforce technical foundations such as handstands, jumps, and various walkover transitions. Students work on building the necessary strength and body control to execute high-level floor skills with proper form. To progress to the next level, an athlete must be able to perform a standing or running back handspring on the floor without any assistance.

Tuck Time

This class is an advanced session for athletes who have already mastered unassisted standing back handsprings and running back handspring multiples on the floor. The primary goal is to develop both front and back tucks while continuing to refine technical foundations like handstands, jumps, and specialty walkover transitions. Students work on building the explosive power and air awareness necessary to execute flips without the use of their hands. To progress to the final level of the program, an athlete must be able to perform a running tuck on the floor without assistance and demonstrate consistent progress on standing tucks.

Last Pass Layouts & Spins

This class represents the highest technical level in the program, specifically designed for elite athletes who have mastered unassisted running tucks and standing tucks on the floor. The curriculum focuses on advanced air awareness and power to achieve perfect form in layouts and the introduction of twisting movements, such as fulls. Athletes continue to refine their foundational strength and specialty passes to ensure safety during high-velocity maneuvers. This class is dedicated to polishing competitive-level skills and mastering the most complex tumbling passes offered at the gym.
